Gay Galliard the Love Story of Mary Queen of Scots
Published in Hardcover by Chatto & Windus (June, 1979)
Author: Margaret Irwin
Average review score:

An interesting book on an interesting man.
This novel (despite its--to our '90s vocabulary--unfortunate title) is a fast-paced, entertaining, and even funny account of the tumultuous life and times of that supreme swashbuckler, the Earl of Bothwell. The novel, which draws heavily on Robert Gore-Browne's biography, "Lord Bothwell," is recommended for anyone with an interest in Mary Queen of Scots and her third husband.

Greatest Mountain: Katahdin's Wilderness
Published in Paperback by Tilbury House Publishers (June, 2003)
Authors: Connie Baxter Marlow, Connie Baxter Marlow, Judith Hakola, Percival Proctor Baxter, Neil Rolde, Irwin C. "Buzz" Caverly, John Hakola, Dennis Kostyk, and Arnie Neptune
Average review score:

A tribute to Mount Katahdin and Baxter State Park.
Connie Baxter Marlow has put together a tribute to Mount Katahdin and Baxter State Park. The people of Maine have a right to be proud of their mountain. This is not a trail guide to the mountain but rather a presentation of its flora and fauna. The photography is very good. However, the text tends to the mystical. This is not a total surprise. Mountains like Katahdin that stand by themselves tend to be regarded differently from those that are found in mountainous regions. For example, Mt. Shasta which looms over Northern California, just as Katahdin looms over the center of Maine, is the subject of legends about lost civilizations. However, this book is worthwhile for its photographs.

Guns and Gunmaking Tools of Southern Appalachia: The Story of the Kentucky Rifle
Published in Paperback by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. (March, 1983)
Author: John Rice Irwin
Average review score:

A Must for students of Southern long rifles
For students of the Southern mountain rifle as well as Appalachian lore, this book is a must. What is so amazing is how these plain, but entirely serviceable rifles were made under such primitive conditions. The chapter on cross bows and how they were made gives the reader an idea of the extreme poverty that these folk lived in. I also found the chapter on Hacker Martin, a 20th century maker of these guns to be entertaining and informative. Being a collector and muzzleloading shooter, I certainly appreciated what John R. Irwin has done with the subject

Here come the funny cars
Published in Unknown Binding by Putnam ()
Author: Irwin Stambler
Average review score:

A GREAT book for any motor enthusiast.
Stambler's "Here Come the Funny Cars," is one of those oldies but goodies. I first came across it about 15 years ago, and highly recommend it to anyone interested in car racing or just cars in general for that matter. Well-written with interviews and great photos, this is a must-have for any car or car-book collector.

The Home Inspection Troubleshooter
Published in Paperback by Dearborn Trade Publishing (January, 1995)
Author: Robert Irwin
Average review score:

Home Inspection Troubleshooter
The book provided great hints and advice to a variety of specific home inspection subjects. The book by itself is not or intended as a full do it yourself guide. I purchased this book as a reference and to get additional insight and ideas.

I found it easy to read and very enjoyable.

Imaginary Landscape: Making Worlds of Myth and Science
Published in Hardcover by Palgrave Macmillan (June, 1989)
Author: William Irwin Thompson
Average review score:

W.I.T. does it again!
Forget Joseph Campbell and his academic-minded ilk -- and take a journey on the wild side with W.I.T. There are very few others writing in the English language like W.I.T. who have all the necessary academic credentials (in his case teaching at MIT, etc.), plus all of the requisite real world credentials that come from creating Lindisfarne Assoc. from scratch. What this book does for the reader is creating a context and provide a place within which we can understand the truly mythic character of the human story, and thereby grasp the underlying evolutionary significance of our own moment in meta-history. Give this book the tie it deserves, because it can be a dense thicket. But passing through the thicket, even with the occasional thorn, is well owrth the price paid by an interested reader seeking larger truths about culture, language, history, and cosmos.

Industrial Noise and Vibration Control
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall (June, 1979)
Author: J. David Irwin
Average review score:

Excellent general reference
This text was used in an undergrad and graduate level university noise control course I was enrolled in. Despite the title, the discussion is not limited to industrial applications. Basic concepts are very well covered in an easy-to-understand (yet not oversimplified) manner. I have not yet found a better general reference for this topic.

International and Global Marketing: Concepts and Cases (The Irwin Series in Marketing)
Published in Paperback by Richard d Irwin (January, 1995)
Authors: Taylor W. Meloan and John L. Graham
Average review score:

Stimulating reading for new exporters.
A very interesting collection of papers, articles and case studies on international marketing and how it affects a domestic business organization. We have recommended it to our clients and they have responded favorably. The word "stimulating" was used most often to describe the content. The most common negative comments, although few, were about the types of companies discussed. They wished that there were more examples of how small companies became successful exporters.

The Irwin Law Office Reference Manual
Published in Paperback by Richard d Irwin (February, 1996)
Authors: Jo Ann Lee and Marilyn L. Satterwhite
Average review score:

The Irwin Law Office Reference Manual
I am currently studying for multiple forms of office administration (medical, law, and general. This book is used as a textbook for two of my legal document production classes so I have had the opportunity to examine it. It isn't light reading, but is so full of useful and necessary information that I recommend anyone interested in working in a law office and or producing legal documents get a copy of their own. Everything from terminology to formatting documents is included. In all, this is a very good and useful manual for anyone interested in office administration. I highly recommend it for legal assistants, students, and secretaries alike.

Irwin's Bible Commentary
Published in Hardcover by Zondervan (June, 1967)
Author: C. H. Irwin
Average review score:

Good commentary! Concise and easy to read!
I inherited a copy of Irwin's Bible Commentary (Copyright 1928) from my father when he passed away in January of 2001. I was thrilled to add this resource to my study collection. C.H. Irwin's Commentary of the Bible is near impossible to find available copies of but if you are able to locate a copy somewhere it would be well worth picking up.

C.H. Irwin has compiled a wonderful commentary on the Bible in a very readable format. His style of Scripture interpretation is conservative, concise and very helpful for Bible students of any experience level, although personally I wish his comments were not quite so brief (as he makes some excellent observations throughout his disquisition of the biblical text). Overall this is a well-written, resourceful piece of work. Many single volume commentaries I've read are usually less than impressive when it comes to providing succinct, ancillary support in biblical studies, but Irwin's commentary is a jewel.

A great aid for quick-reference study of the Bible.
